News :. Gears of War 2 Update

By CGH xSGT Panda | Posted: Apri1 08, 2008 8:23pm

At the 2008 Game Developers Conference, when Microsoft and Epic officially announced the sequel, Cliff Bleszinski promised that Gears of War 2 will be “bigger, better and more badass.” The May 2008 issue of Game Informer has a world exclusive first look at the game, revealing why CliffyB used such words to describe the sequel.

First, the Unreal Engine 3 technology has evolved a lot since Epic Games shipped Gears of War in 2006. The new features unveiled at GDC 2008, which we discussed with Tim Sweeney in this interview, will have a dramatic impact on Gears 2 gameplay. There will be hundreds of Locust on screen and Game Informer heard hints that there will be dramatically expanded co-op modes to multiplayer content that takes advantage of the engine's new ability to deliver huge numbers of Locusts at one time.

Four new characters are revealed: Tai Kaliso, a spiritual and meditative warrior with a badass tattooed face; Chairman Prescott, the leader of the COG forces; Dizzy, the driver of the Derrick, a new massive vehicle; and Maria Santiago, Dom’s wife, who will act as one of the plot devices that motivates the characters and advances the story.

The magazine also revealed that the game will feature multiple save files and multiple difficulty settings on a single co-op session. So for example, one player can play on Hardcore, while the other plays on Casual, and the game will be aware of these different difficulty settings so when the players take different paths, they will have different experiences based on the chosen level of difficulty.

Finally, the article confirmed what was suggested in the teaser trailer of the game. There will be new chainsaw duels that expand the game’s combat mechanics and boss battles will be more fun and epic in scale.
