In a shooter like Gears of
War, weapons are as important as the characters. Can you tell
us what weapons will be featured in this first wave?
Randy Falk: Marcus
and Cole with have Lancer’s and the snub pistol and
the Locust Drone has the Hammerburst and Boltok while the
Locust Sniper has the Longshot and the Boltok. We have also
made models of the Gnasher and the Hammer of Dawn so I’m
sure you will see them pop up at some point.
What were the reasons to include Augustus Cole, aka "The
Cole Train", in this first wave and leave out Fenix’s
sidekick Dominic Santiago?
Randy Falk: Strategic
Planning. You don’t want to pack in all your heavy-hitters
into the first assortment, it’s better for sales and
for building the brand to spread the figures out over more
waves and have each series more evenly weighted in terms of
character selection.
You have included one Drone
in this first wave. Since there are many types of this Locust
race, do you plan to release other Drone variations such as
the Troika, or other Locusts such as the Berserker or the
Wretches?
Randy Falk: The first
wave has a Drone and Sniper. Series 2 will have Theron Guards.
We’re also working on some of the helmeted Locust variants
as well but their method of distribution is to be determined.

Lancer Assault Rifle
Our audience wants
to know, do you have plans to release the badass Brumak beast
or the arachnid-like Seeders or Corpsers? If so, will they
be on scale with the current GoW action figures?
Randy Falk:
No plans for these yet. It would be really hard to make these
to scale with the 7” action figure line because of size
and price. Perhaps if we make a small scale figure assortment
down the road.

HammerBurst
Your agreement
with Epic Games grants you rights to produce “a full
line of collectible action figures, busts, statues, dioramas
and prop replicas from the Gears of War video game and any
potential sequels,” but that doesn’t mean NECA
will in fact manufacture them. Can you tell us what your plans
are regarding all these options you were granted? Would the
release of other type of Gears of War collectibles depend
on the commercial success of the first action figures or the
following video games in the series?
Randy Falk: It’s
too early to comment on this. We’re working on a lot
of Gears collectibles and we’re show a lot of the line
at the International Toy Fair in NYC next week. More we will
revealed throughout the year so keep watching…

Hammer Of Dawn
After seeing your 19”
Jason action figure and the Grindhouse Full-Sized Rifle Prop
Replica, I have to ask you particularly, do you plan to release
a 12-inch+ Marcus Fenix and/or a full-sized replica of the
Gears of War Lancer rifle?
Randy Falk: Both are
certainly possible and are being considered.
Is there anything that you would like to say to the “Gearheads”
that are right now reading this interview?
Randy Falk: Thanks
for your interest and check out the figures and the other
GEARS merchandise and see what you think. We love the game
and have pulled out all the stops to make these some of the
best figures ever. We also have some pretty cool surprises
and exclusives in store so get ready to build your own COG
army and Locust Horde.
